Louise Gray & Scott Ramsay Kyles Split The Difference launches the beginning of combined ideas of perception, identity, self-portraiture with a confessional approach. Themes running through are real vs. faade, accept vs. consent, the presented vs. the invented, authenticity vs. unauthorized. Louises work is in response to Caribbean-American poet, essayist and activist June Jordans work most cited To tell the truth is to become beautiful as well as her extended works. Scott drew from writer, novelist & philosopher Aldous Huxleys own recollection within a mescaline trip in The Doors of Perception where one experiences a closed door of thought, in order to open another portal. Both have used this work as the beginning to form a basis for self-examination, reflection and in investigating particular experiences from society now.
